Emile Heskey
Date Of Birth : 11/01/78
Birthplace : Leicester, England
Position : Striker
Height : 1.90m (6'2")
Weight : 88kg (13st 12lb)
Squad Number : 8
After much speculation in the press, Emile made his dream move to the Gérard
Houllier's Liverpool side in March 2000. In a fantastic 1999/2000 season, he
became an England first choice striker, and only the second most expensive
player in English football. Heskey's debut in 1995 was for Leicester, where he
went on to be voted Leicester's young player of the year for the 1995/96 season.
With power, pace and improving finishing, the two-footed striker is more than a
handful for any defence. After being eased into the first team as a teenager at
Leicester, Emile forged an excellent partnership with Tony Cottee and as a
strong runner with the ball; Emile is also capable of deft touches to set up
chances for others. Impressive performances in 1998/99 season saw Emile make his
debut for the full England side, coming on as substitute for the final eight
minutes away to Hungary. The promising striker's pace and strength attracted the
attention of Houllier, but the Frenchman had to wait until after Heskey's
appearance at Wembley in the Worthington Cup final before he would put pen to
paper. Heskey has learned to become a great goal scorer during his short time at
Anfield, and the fans who once doubted his abilities are now singing his
praises.
